Physiotherapy
Pain can make you stop moving. Unfortunately, moving less can sometimes lead to even more stiffness, weakness and loss of confidence.
Physiotherapy is designed to help break that cycle.
At Sigma Chiropractic & Rehab Clinic, our physiotherapists combine clinical assessment, hands-on treatment, therapeutic exercise and education to help you restore mobility, strength and function.
Whether your goal is getting back to work, returning to exercise, recovering after surgery or simply climbing the stairs more comfortably, we build your rehabilitation around what you need to do in real life.
What Is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a regulated health profession that focuses on restoring and maintaining movement, physical function and independence.
Treatment begins by identifying the physical impairments contributing to your problem.
Your physiotherapist may assess:
-
Joint mobility
-
Range of motion
-
Muscle strength
-
Flexibility
-
Balance
-
Gait
-
Posture
-
Neurological function
-
Functional movement
From there, an individualized rehabilitation program is developed.

What Does Physiotherapy Treatment Include?
Your program may combine:
Manual Therapy
Hands-on techniques to improve joint and soft-tissue mobility.
Therapeutic Exercise
Individualized strengthening, stretching, stabilization and mobility exercises.
Functional Rehabilitation
Exercises designed around activities that matter to you - walking, lifting, stairs, work activities, exercise or sport.
Therapeutic Modalities
When appropriate, your physiotherapist may incorporate IFC/EMS, therapeutic ultrasound, laser, shockwave, spinal decompression or other modalities.
Education
Understanding your condition can make rehabilitation much less intimidating.
Your physiotherapist can explain which movements are safe, what to temporarily modify and how to gradually increase activity.

Active Rehabilitation
We believe physiotherapy should eventually help you rely less on your therapist, not more.
Hands-on treatment may help improve pain and mobility, but rehabilitation also focuses on rebuilding strength, endurance, coordination and confidence.
As you improve, your exercises progress with you.
Do I Need a Doctor's Referral?
You generally do not need a physician's referral to see a physiotherapist in Ontario.
Some extended health insurance plans, however, may require a physician's referral for reimbursement. We recommend checking your individual benefits.
Physiotherapy FAQ
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing that allows the physiotherapist to assess and move the affected area is best.
Will I receive exercises to do at home?
Often, yes. A manageable home program can be an important part of rehabilitation. Our physiotherapist will create a personalized exercise program based on your condition, helping you follow your exercises and track your progress.
How long does physiotherapy take to work?
Recovery time varies depending on your injury, how long symptoms have been present, general health, activity demands and consistency with rehabilitation.
Can physiotherapy help after surgery?
Yes. We provide pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation and adjust treatment according to the surgical procedure, healing stage and instructions from your surgical team.
Can physiotherapy be combined with chiropractic or massage?
Yes. Sigma Rehab is a multidisciplinary clinic, allowing different providers to coordinate care when appropriate.
